Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope
A panoramic Hubble-sharp view 100 times larger to map cosmic structure and hunt rogue exoplanets.
Primary Mirror Diameter2.4 meters (Hubble class)
Field of View0.281 deg² (100× larger than Hubble WFC3)
Detector Count300,800,000 active pixels
Data Volume~1.4 Terabytes compressed per day
Panoramic Infrared Survey Architecture
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is NASA's next-generation astrophysics flagship observatory. With a 2.4-meter telescope and an unprecedented 300-megapixel Wide Field Instrument, Roman provides the same razor-sharp clarity as Hubble but with a field of view 100 times greater.
Mission Objectives
Measure the cosmic expansion rate and equation of state of Dark Energy using Type Ia supernovae and baryon acoustic oscillations.
Conduct a colossal gravitational microlensing survey to discover thousands of cold exoplanets, including free-floating rogue worlds.
Demonstrate high-contrast starlight suppression via a state-of-the-art Coronagraph Instrument to image nearby exoplanetary giants.
Construct high-density cosmological maps containing hundreds of millions of galaxies across cosmic time.
